Dr Balaji is a British Board certified (Post CCT-UK) General, Laparoscopic, Upper GI and Bariatric surgeon with over 30 years of surgical experience.
Dr Balaji spent 2 years of clinical research in Los Angeles, USA at the University of Southern California and developed an interest in Oesophageal diseases and Foregut surgery. He then completed his CCT in the UK in General and Upper GI surgery and proceeded to working as a consultant in Upper GI and Bariatric surgery since 2006. After a short period as a consultant in India he returned to the UK and had been a consultant in the national Health Service (NHS) and has completed 10 years as a consultant in Upper GI and Bariatric surgery in the UK since 2014.
He has held leadership positions in the trust, regionally and nationally in the field of Upper GI and Bariatric surgery in the UK. He has served as a lead for one of the top 5 high volume bariatric surgery centres in the UK.
His passion includes management of complex oesophageal diseases, performing advanced open and minimally invasive oesophageal and hiatal surgery in addition to having expertise in performing primary and revisional bariatric (weight loss surgeries). He has academic and training interests and has contributed to several presentations and publications internationally.
Dr Balaji also performs all types of general and advanced laparoscopic surgery including trauma and emergency surgery.
