YOUR TREATMENT, EXPLAINED

What is the 6-month gastric balloon?

A 6-month gastric balloon is a soft, saline-filled device placed in the stomach through an endoscope. It occupies space and helps you feel fuller after smaller meals, without permanently changing the stomach’s anatomy.

Allure’s 6-month programme uses the Medicone Corporea balloon, subject to assessment and local availability. It is a temporary treatment, with endoscopic removal planned at or before six months.

A temporary tool

The balloon supports portion control while you practise new eating patterns. It is one part of a programme that includes nutrition, activity and behaviour change.

A complete Allure programme

Allure manages preparation, nurse and dietitian support, progress tracking and ongoing aftercare. The appropriate licensed clinical facility and treating team provide procedural care.

ALLURE PROGRAMME EXPERIENCE

14–19%

Historical average total body weight loss across Allure’s gastric balloon programmes.

How much weight can I lose with a 6-month gastric balloon?

Allure’s 14–19% range comes from internal service evaluation over seven years. This range includes different balloon programmes and is not a Medicone-only study. It is programme experience, rather than a controlled trial or a guarantee of your result.

Published balloon outcomes are often around 10–15% of starting body weight. Device, treatment duration, starting weight, tolerance and engagement with aftercare all affect progress. Figures from different programmes and studies are not direct head-to-head comparisons.

At your assessment, we discuss a realistic personal goal and how your Allure team will support it.

YOUR JOURNEY, LED BY ALLURE

Treatment is the start. Support makes it a programme.

01 · Assess & prepare

Your clinician reviews health, medicines, previous procedures and suitability. Allure explains the balloon options, preparation, recovery plan, programme inclusions and costs before you decide.

02 · Place & recover

We guide preparation and early recovery. Placement takes place in an appropriate licensed clinical facility, with the treating clinical team responsible for the procedure and procedural safety.

03 · Build & maintain

Allure manages ongoing nurse and dietitian support, symptom guidance, progress tracking and behaviour change. We plan removal or natural passage and the next stage of weight management with you.

How is the 6-month balloon placed and removed?

6- & 12-MONTH BALLOONS

Endoscopic placement

  • Follow the facility’s fasting, medication and sedation instructions.
  • A flexible camera passes through the mouth to inspect the stomach.
  • The balloon is positioned, filled with saline and checked.
  • You recover at the facility, with an escort and driving restrictions after sedation.
  • Endoscopic removal is planned before the device’s maximum treatment period.

RECOVERY, STEP BY STEP

Your 6-month balloon diet progression

Endoscopic balloon recovery uses a more gradual texture progression over about two weeks. Your Allure dietitian guides each stage according to symptoms and tolerance.

The 6- and 12-month pathway gives your stomach more time to settle.

Am I suitable for a gastric balloon?

The programme guide for 6-Month Gastric Balloon is BMI 27+. BMI is only a starting point: your medical history, device instructions and clinician’s assessment determine whether treatment is appropriate.

Discuss previous stomach or oesophageal surgery, reflux or a hiatus hernia, ulcers, liver disease, bleeding problems, eating disorders, pregnancy, breastfeeding or pregnancy plans. These can affect eligibility.

You must be able to follow the recovery diet, attend follow-up and access urgent care if needed. If a balloon is unsuitable, your clinician can discuss weight-loss medications or surgical options.

What is recovery like?

Nausea, vomiting, cramps and reflux are common in the first few days while the stomach adjusts. Plan time to rest, take the prescribed symptom medication and keep in touch with Allure if you are struggling.

Return to work, exercise and travel depends on symptoms and your clinician’s advice. After sedation, follow the facility’s escort and driving instructions. Allurion generally avoids routine sedation, but you still need to be well enough and clinically cleared before driving.

Eat slowly, keep portions small and separate hydration and meals as your dietitian advises. Long-term progress depends on balanced nutrition, activity and sustained habits.

Side effects and when to seek urgent help

A gastric balloon is a medical treatment with risks. Less common but serious problems can include balloon leakage or overinflation, obstruction, ulcers, bleeding, pancreatitis, aspiration or perforation. These may require urgent endoscopy or surgery.

Seek urgent medical care for severe or persistent abdominal, chest or back pain; repeated vomiting or inability to keep fluids down; very little urine or fainting; a swollen abdomen, fever, breathing difficulty, blood in vomit or black stools. Blue or green urine can indicate leakage from some saline-filled balloons and requires prompt clinical advice.

In a medical emergency in the UAE, call 998. Contact Allure for ongoing symptom support, but do not wait for a WhatsApp reply in an emergency.

How much does a 6-month gastric balloon cost in Dubai?

Your cost depends on the device, clinical placement pathway and aftercare included. Endoscopic removal is part of the treatment pathway and must be considered alongside placement and aftercare.

Allure provides an individual written quote after assessment. We explain appointments, medication, monitoring, removal arrangements where relevant and any additional services before you begin.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

6-Month Gastric Balloon FAQs

Up to six months, with endoscopic removal scheduled at or before the device’s maximum placement period. Earlier removal may be needed for intolerance or complications.

Clear fluids are used for days 1–2, full fluids for days 3–7, then purées and soft foods during week 2, progressing towards suitable solids around the end of week 2 as tolerated. Follow your individual clinical plan.

Yes. The programme includes specialist nurse support, bespoke dietitian sessions, symptom guidance, progress tracking and direct WhatsApp aftercare. Your individual plan explains the appointment schedule and programme inclusions.

Plan time for early symptoms to settle. Return to work, exercise, travel and driving depends on how you feel and clinical clearance. Endoscopic procedures also require the facility’s post-sedation restrictions and an escort.

Allure helps you establish a maintenance plan before removal. Weight regain can occur, so sustainable nutrition, activity and follow-up remain important. Additional treatment is discussed after clinical review.

Severe or persistent pain, repeated vomiting, inability to keep fluids down or other warning signs require urgent assessment. In a medical emergency in the UAE, call 998. Do not wait for a WhatsApp reply in an emergency.
