Gastric Balloon in Dubai
A gastric balloon is a non-surgical, clinically recognised weight-loss intervention designed to support appetite control and structured lifestyle change.
At Allure Weightloss, gastric balloon placements are performed in hospital settings and overseen by experienced consultant surgeons and physicians. The procedure typically takes 20–30 minutes and is carried out under light sedation.
Eligibility for gastric balloon treatment requires a minimum BMI of 30. All Allure patients are supported through a structured aftercare programme, including ongoing guidance from specialist dietitians and bariatric nurses to help maximise results and ensure safety throughout treatment.
Not All Gastric Balloons Are the Same
There are many types of gastric balloons available globally — ranging from low-cost, short-term devices to premium, clinically established systems.
At Allure Weightloss, we work only with premium, FDA-approved gastric balloons that are supported by long-term clinical data, international use, and well-established safety profiles — such as the Orbera 365 Gastric Balloon.
While some clinics offer cheaper or lesser-known alternatives, these are often associated with poorer tolerance, reduced effectiveness, early removals, and an increased risk of complications. Our approach prioritises patient safety, reliable outcomes, and long-term success over short-term cost.
Choosing the right balloon — and the right clinical team — makes a meaningful difference to results.

The Orbera Gastric Balloon
The Orbera 365 Gastric Balloon (Upto 12-Months)
The Orbera 365 Gastric Balloon is one of the world’s most established and widely used gastric balloon systems, supported by extensive international clinical data and long-term safety evidence.
Designed for 12 months of treatment, the Orbera balloon is made from soft medical-grade silicone and is placed in the stomach during a short endoscopic procedure under light sedation. The balloon is removed in the same way after no more than 12 months, therefore, typically requiring just two brief hospital visits.
The extended 12-month treatment period allows patients more time to establish sustainable eating behaviours, optimise weight loss results, and develop long-term lifestyle changes under medical supervision.
At Allure Weightloss, Orbera 365 patients benefit from structured clinical oversight, including ongoing support from UK-trained dietitians and specialist bariatric nurses, ensuring safety, tolerance, and outcome optimisation throughout the programme.
Eligibility:
The Orbera 365 Gastric Balloon is suitable for patients with a BMI between 30 and 50, subject to clinical assessment.
Bespoke Gastric Balloon Aftercare & Ongoing Support
While global average weight loss with gastric balloon treatment is typically reported at 10–15% of total body weight, Allure Weightloss patients have historically achieved average weight loss outcomes between 14–19%.
We are proud of these results, which are not driven by the balloon alone, but by the depth and consistency of clinical support provided throughout the programme.
At Allure Weightloss, gastric balloon treatment is delivered as part of a structured medical programme, combining the balloon with:
- Regular one-to-one follow-up with specialist bariatric dietitians
- Ongoing support from experienced bariatric nurses
- Personalised nutritional guidance tailored to each stage of treatment
- Practical tools and education to support behaviour change
- Continuous monitoring and clinical input to optimise tolerance and results
This comprehensive aftercare approach supports patients not only in achieving meaningful weight loss during the balloon period, but in developing sustainable habits that help maintain results long after balloon removal.
Our focus is on safe, supported, and lasting weight loss — not short-term outcomes.
What is a Gastric Balloon?
The 6 and 12-month gastric balloons help you lose weight quickly in the same way. A gastric balloon procedure suppresses your appetite by temporarily taking up space in your stomach and reducing the production of ghrelin, the hunger hormone.
On average, our patients will lose 12-18% of their body weight, with the help of our dietitian’s lifestyle and diet advice. The gastric balloon is a weight loss tool that helps you make changes to your lifestyle allowing you to lose weight quickly and effectively.
Common Gastric Balloon Side Effects
In the first few days after placement, most patients will feel unwell. We recommend taking a little time off work in order to accommodate the process of your body adjusting to life with the balloon.
These short-term side effects include vomiting, nausea, and stomach cramps. You may be prescribed medication to help alleviate this as much as possible.

Gastric Balloon Eligibility Requirements
The Food and Drug administration (FDA) recently increased the minimum BMI eligibility for gastric balloons from 27 BMI to 30 BMI.
Certain medical conditions and or treatments can rule you out for a gastric balloon, for example any form of previous bariatric surgery and Crohn’s disease would make you ineligible, to name a couple. Our team of gastric balloon specialists will be able to discuss this with you in further detail.
Gastric Balloon Programmes & Pricing
Our FDA-approved gastric balloon programmes are individually tailored following a clinical assessment. Programmes typically start from AED 15,000 and include structured one-to-one dietitian support and ongoing clinical guidance.
To determine suitability and discuss the most appropriate option for you, we recommend a confidential assessment with our team.

Calculate Your BMI
In order to have gastric sleeve surgery you need a BMI of at least 35. This BMI is lower if you have comorbidities. Ask our team for clarification. You can use our Calculator in order to determine your BMI, or use the NHS BMI Calculator.
How is body mass index (BMI) measured?
An individuals BMI is calculated by using the following formula:
BMI = Weight (kg) / Height (m)²
You must take your weight in kilograms, divide it by your height in meters, and then divide it a second time by your height in order to determine the correct body mass index.
Not sure you qualify?
If you still aren’t sure, a member of our team will be able to help. If you are certain you won’t qualify for gastric sleeve surgery, you still may be eligible for other medical weight loss treatments.

Gastric Balloon FAQs
A gastric balloon is a non-surgical and short-term (temporary) weight loss device. A smooth, soft saline-filled balloon (about the size of an grapefruit) is placed in your stomach, allowing you to control your portion sizes by filling space in your stomach. By following professional health and wellness advice, you can adopt good, healthy eating habits and change your lifestyle so you can lose weight quickly and keep it off long term.
Gastric balloons have been used in the management of obesity for over 20 years. Over this time they have evolved in shape, size, and design resulting in a modern, durable product, which is now well established as a safe weight loss procedure. Over 300,000 ORBERA® balloons have been placed worldwide.
Once in place, the gastric balloon is filled with saline to partially fill the stomach so that they may consume smaller portions of food. Most weight is lost in the first three months, but because the gastric balloon stays in for six months, you will learn the right amount of food to eat to maintain your new weight long term.
It is very likely that the presence of the balloon in the stomach will cause nausea or vomiting after placement. In some patients it may last one to two weeks. Your consultant surgeon may prescribe medication to help minimise these potential effects. Patients will need to immediately contact their physician for any severe or unusual symptoms.
The most widely used measurement for obesity. The BMI approximates body mass using a mathematical ratio of weight and height [(weight in kg ÷ height in meters) or (weight in pounds ÷ height in inches x 703)]. A BMI of 30 or more is regarded by most health agencies as the threshold for obesity. A BMI of 40 or more generally qualifies as morbid obesity. However, note that BMI measurements in body-builders and athletes may not be accurate determinants of obesity because the BMI does not distinguish between muscle and fat.
